Traditionally mobile homes have been zero rated for VAT which made them particularly attractive. In the 2012 budget the Chancellor announced that mobile homes would be subject to 20% standard rate VAT from October 1st 2012. After protests from the industry the goverment has climbed down and reduced the VAT payable in October to 5%. If you want to avoid paying any VAT at all, then buy before October to beat the VAT increase.
